The reign of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo (I)

The revelation from last night which heavens gave me, as the spirit led me to the top of Job 600 and handed me virtual spectacles and Ghana in the next four years was vividly reeled in front of me like a film. Revelations were so transient coupled with the fact that I was in a trance but I was able to record what I saw to the best of my ability.

And 7th December crept in slowly with regards to how early the stakeholders wanted its arrival. It was the first time in months that I haven’t seen anyone wielding a party colour or any paraphernalia to portray their political leanings and I knew everything was going to be alright. People could hardly chat each other for fear of being labeled as flirting with other voters, as all roads led to the various polling stations.

Long lines of people trying to outwit each other in the race for early voter status and getting back home to follow the proceedings on TV and reports trickling in from different polling stations and constituencies to the radio stations, as they pray fervently for their candidates to win. Activities have gotten everyone busy and it is also the first time in years that you saw everyone in the neighborhood, including those who have moved out and working in different regions of the Country but feels good voting at home.

Pockets of trivial situations were recorded but that was as far as it got ugly, and all too soon, the day had passed and on the night of the third day after voting which was on the 10th, all results were collated and a winner was officially declared awaiting inauguration come the 7th of January, 2013 and just like the polar system, some were jubilating and others sulking in their defeat and as usual, allegations, accusations and cries of foul play were flying about.

Fervent preparations towards the inaugural ceremony of the President of the republic of Ghana were underway as different forms of transitional meetings and handing over of notes and reports, resources and positions were going on. Then came the D-day and I saw a big white Elephant in the distance taking strides to the Independence Square with rich embroidered Persian mats on which sat the Indomitable President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo as he kept his cool for the August ceremony.

There was an endless uproar of cheers from the people gathered thereof as was expected and the crowd that usually gathers on such occasions seemed to have tripled amidst dignitaries from all over the world. Yes, for the first time in the history of the fourth republic, a government has been defeated after its first term of governance and the destined Nana Akufo Addo has finally assumed what has been his, since birth.

To whom much is given, much is expected so the President quickly moved to the Jubilee house where his office would be, because he was too good to be in a monument that reminded everyone of the infamous slave trade that went on in the Gold Coast. He quickly formed his cabinet without much drama because for the past twelve years that he’s been aspiring to the highest office of the land, it was all he did. After all, forming and reformation of cabinet as a pastime would put everyone in a position to form his cabinet without much ado.

Free education which was the topmost priority of his manifesto and campaign was quickly promulgated into a law thus seeing a rejuvenation of the educational system in the Country. Everybody was happy that they can now go to school free of charge and that changed the face of schooling. Eighty percent of hawkers and porters (kayayei k3 kayehii) who had up to Junior High School Certificate had gone to enroll to take advantage of this freebie and nobody dared question their mental readiness or whether they well placed to pursue the education.

Grownups who had the desire to pursue education but could not afford had all gone to enroll and before I knew it, the classrooms had burst at their seams and a new set of classrooms under trees had to be instituted again and it didn’t matter as long as there was a teacher attending to them and the students are not paying for tuition. One thing that was guaranteed in the new educational system is most of them did not go to school on regular basis because they had to fend for themselves so had to stay back and work for their upkeep.

There was rampant and unnecessary transfers of students who wanted particular schools of their choices as the computer placement program had been overwhelmed by the free education programme. It was so because, most of these beneficiaries had passed out from Junior High school some years ago and couldn’t be re-keyed into the system for placement and that was quite herculean to handle.

The tutor-student ratio was nothing worth writing home about and it affected the quality of what was taught and how it was taught but that was for the Minister of Education to handle and it was alright because the manifesto promise have at least been fulfilled.

The President, Nana Akufo Addo who wasn’t gunning for a second term and only wanted to show all and sundry how to govern a nation, came out with nouvelle ideas, some of which were alien for the terrain but he couldn’t care less. It was his reign and decisions were his to make. He didn’t have much time at his disposal to deal with pressing issues from home and abroad so he never went to the lorry stations again on world transport days but instead, he delegated his transport Minister every year to honour the occasion and also asked the Ga Traditional Council to bring the annual Kpoikpoi to his outfit and instances where he couldn’t honour the occasion, his Minister of Food and Agriculture went there to eat on his behalf.

Elitism had risen to its heights as everybody was trying to work on their accent, led by the X and Y FM’s and it was no surprise because you couldn’t expect anything from a government that has free education as their top-most priority and a President that spoke flawless English without hyphenating. The essence of Diplomatic Passports and all the priviledges that comes with it had been restored and no one underwent any scrutiny before they embarked on their journeys anymore.

We could only have one president at a time so a directive to ban all convoys were put in the place so that the only time you saw a motorcade, you could easily tell that it was the President and his entourage and to fortify his reign, the Police service was equipped to curb all nonsenses that ensued or was to result in the future.

The you only live once (YOLO) President whose reign would be the most to go down in the history of Ghana and the one to start a revolution in accountability, had a few committees set up to bring to book and speed all those who have erred against the rule of law in the past. He is not like the forebears who never sought for reconciliation of the books. He wanted the slates cleaned. The rule of Law took its course without fear or favour and everyone found culpable were jailed without apology.

Everyone was accountable except him. He was only accountable to God whose battle it was in the first place. Order had been restored to an appreciable level especially among the working class who do not belong to the ruling class while corruption and open display of avarice was pursued at the top to outwit each other. All government institutions with the exception of the security services were offered to the highest bidder for efficiency, productive and higher returns. Freedom of Speech was still in place but people could hardly call into political talk shows and programmes to speak anyhow; you probably got your speech defect or politically incorrect communication skills corrected or upgraded to the current version; everyone conformed.

Activities of insurgency sprang up among people who thought things were not being done right but it was not to be sustained as suspects were meted with brute force. Relations of the suspects were laid on pyres to serve as a deterrent to those who were nursing such ideas. Liberalism was promoted at the expense of the culture, values, norms, mores and ethics that binded and gave the people a sense of direction and identity. It was a wildlife and survival affair.

The video reeled until there was a total blackout but I was assured that the backup plant was about to be switched on for me to continue with the revelations and that was the time I excused myself to visit the washroom only to realize that I was still in my bed and was actually dreaming. I couldn’t believe because I hardly dreamt but one thing I was thankful for is the fact that, we are still some three days away from the voting day and nobody would believe my revelations anyway; after all, I’m not a Prophet, just a random guy who was stoned to sleep.
